NEWBIE Questions
Not new to RPG's. . but I am new to the aspect of GW. (Have played EQ for 8 years and still going strong in EQ2).
My questions are simple . . no reason to get uptight about them. . .I have seen "Green" things. . ."Purple" things. . ."Gold" things. . .now the colors to me mean I can use them, I cant use them. . .(according to my experience in EQ, A green item would be too low for me. . .RED would mean my charater CAN NOT use it at all. . .umm we have white and Blue too. . .) What do the colors mean in GW?? Please Explain. . . (I may have posed this somewhere else. . but frankly I lost it and cant find it. . help! ) |

Ok,
White=Common Blue=Uncommon Purple=Rare Gold=Very Rare Green=Unique To check if you can use the full potential of an item look at it in your inventory and besides its damage it should say (Requires *insert number* *insert attribute type*) |

Green items are rare items that have perfect mods and drop from bosses. Can't be modified or salvaged.
Gold items are rare items that may or may not have perfect stats or max damage. These can be modified and can be salvaged. (Use expert salvage kit when trying to salvage mods) Purple and blue items are uncommon, lower end weapons or runes(blue < purple) All of them can be used by any character, but most have requirements for getting the most out of them. example: A gold Axe that's 6-28 (max damage) requiring 12 in Axe Mastery won't do as much damage if you've only got 9 or 10 in Axe mastery. |

Welcome to Guild Wars. The game can be very confusing for the beginner or seasoned MMORPG player. If you take time and read the manuals and fansite forums you will pick up on the game. Additionally, join a helpful and patient guild that is willing to teach beginners.
Read this and it will explain the color of weapons. Quote:

White = common
Blue = magic Purple = uncommon Gold = rare Green = unique Golds are generally better than purples, which are usually better than blues, which are usually better than whites. Green/unique items are items that have a specific name (eg razorstone), and are dropped from only one boss who uses it (eg. Tanzit Razorstone - drops razorstone). All the Tyrian greens have max mods, meaning they are perfect. They cannot be dyed or salvaged though. Most Canthan greens are perfect, but some only have half the maximum mod. Don't make the mistake of thinking that a green item is perfect, it just means it's unique. |
